As a foodie who just loves to try all sorts of different foods, honestly, finding family-friendly spots that are halal in Houston has been one of the best things about living here. Honestly, it's because Houston is food heaven, right? The richness of mixed cultures is there so that you can pretty much find anything your heart may wish for. And let's just say there are quite a few palatable halal options to dip into. So, I thought I would share some of my favorite places—these are spots that my family and I keep going back to, and I'm pretty sure you'll love them too.
Istanbul Grill & Deli
Okay, so let me start with Istanbul Grill & Deli. This little gem is located at 5613 Morningside Dr, and I simply can't rave about it enough. It's warm, inviting, and the staff is so friendly that one feels like visiting uncles and aunts. What really sucked me in was the Doner Kebab and the Adana Kofta. Really, these dishes were crazy good for your taste buds, big juicy bites that just melt in your mouth. And don't even get me started on the Turkish tea-it's the best way to wrap a meal. If you want a place that is perfect for gatherings, with everything clean and all their food being excellent, it's Istanbul Grill & Deli!
Pasha Turkish Restaurant
Next in line: Pasha Turkish Restaurant, 2325 University Blvd. This place has that modern vibe with a little bit of that traditional Turkish charm. So warm and welcoming, it's great for a nice dinner out with the family. The first time I had their pita bread—oh my God, it was so fresh, so soft! You can tell it's made-to-order. Then you have the kebabs. Whether you like meat or you're on a veggie kick, Pasha has got you covered. The spices they use? Just chef's kiss. It's a flavor explosion every time.
Aga's Restaurant & Catering
If you like Indian and Pakistani food, like I do, then you absolutely have to go to Aga's Restaurant & Catering. You find it at 11842 Wilcrest Dr, sometimes you get that feeling that the food must be good before stepping inside. So, my personal favorites are grilled goat chops and beef kebabs. Man, oh man, there is seriously just so much flavor. And that's not all the best part? This is the place when you desire to have dinner with your loved one-there's nothing more family-friendly than this place. I assure you, once you taste Aga's, you'll go crazy.
Fadi's Mediterranean Grill
I must start talking about Fadi's Mediterranean Grill. They have several branches around Houston, so it's pretty convenient to dine there. Fadi's Mediterranean goodness is simply everywhere and the menu is extensive. The lamb shanks? So tender. The hummus? Out of this world. Known for just being fresh, that is, places like Fadi's. It's super casual: the place to go for a laid-back family meal. And portions are huge, so you're sure to leave stuffed and happy.
The Halal Guys
Man, I would be cheating myself if I left out The Halal Guys at 3821 Farnham St. You have never had their chicken and gyro platters, then you are missing out. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and their white sauce is like magic. I still don't know what's in it, but it's amazing! The vibe here is lively, and the service is always friendly. It's the perfect place to go when you want something quick but still packed with flavor.
Afghan Village
Last but definitely not least is Afghan Village at 6413 Hillcroft St. The food here? Unbelievable. Of course, the lamb kabob and beef karhai should be tried. The atmosphere is very traditional-you hear the sounds of grilled meat with people chatting away; it's just part of the whole dining. Definitely a wonderful place for an easy, family dinner.
Exploring these halal restaurants in Houston has truly been a culinary adventure for me. Every spot seems to offer something unique-whether it's the warmth and coziness of the spot or just the different flavors. If visiting Houston or are planning your next visit, I'd say take the family and run through the places. You're sure to find some new favorites, and I'm quite sure you'll find a few of your own to come back to. Bon appétit!
